Crushing Cans
July 20, 2008
We’ve all read the comic sections of our newspapers, and watched Saturday morning cartoons. Sometimes as adults these forms of entertainment wear off and we need to look to other amusing things to give us a really good laugh.
A friend of mine posted this video on his MySpace page; he says that he’s a huge Red Green fan. I don’t know who he is but for me this video is just downright hilarious but what makes it even funnier for me is that I KNOW this guy!
Library Time is Fun Time
June 17, 2008
Monday is actually one of my favorite days of the week this summer all because of the Summer Reading Program at my library. They received a grant that has allowed them to bring in some truly awesome performers every Monday.
We went yesterday to see Ken Lonnquist; this guy is awesome! His songs were funny, he involved the audience in his gig, and everyone had a great time. He was even nice enough to let me post a picture of him here. The theme for the library’s summer reading program is Catch the Reading Bug. Ken had some great songs for this theme; of course you know that he had to sing that one about “nobody loves, everybody hates, I think I’ll eat a can of worms” ewwww gross! He sang one about forbidden love…between a spider and a fly that is! LOL Every song he sang was a lot of fun.
As a single mom you know I keep my eye out for inexpensive things to do with the kids and being able to attend these free weekly performances is absolutely wonderful. It encourages the kids to read, gives us something to do for at least an hour every Monday night, and we always enjoy sitting down with our books from the library every night taking turns reading together.
Music is truly soothing to the soul and after the long day I had yesterday Ken’s music was fun, refreshing, and gave us a good ‘ole dose of laughter. Being able to see him for free was an awesome treat but I can guarantee you that I’d even buy tickets to his performances and I’m definitely going to pick up a CD or two from his website. If you visit his website (http://www.kenland.com/) you can even hear some samples of his songs and they’re available on iTunes too!
Subservient Chicken - Just for Fun
May 28, 2008
Have you ever had one of those days when you wish that someone was just do what you tell them to do without questioning your authority. This single mom sure knows all about those days! It seems that no matter what I tell my kids to do one of them always asks “Why”. “Just because I said so” doesn’t ever seem to be quite enough for these kids. LOL
I found a great way to take out my frustrations when no one seems to be doing what I tell them to do. Just type in the box what you want the subservient chicken to do and see how he responds! But I can tell you one thing - there are some things he (or is it a she) won’t do!
Sometimes we just need a break and do something for fun - have a great time with this site.
Single Mom’s Timewaster
May 21, 2008
Sometimes as single moms we just need to stop and take a few moments for ourselves. I like playing computer games and doing online jigsaw puzzles. Since I work on the computer the kids don’t know that I’m not working and I get a few minutes of fun time to myself. I just have to remember to turn the sound down on games that are noisy!
Since Memorial Day is just around the corner and there will be lots of backyard barbecues I thought this puzzle would be perfect. I chose the 100 piece classic cut - I could have made it harder but figured that this single mom had better not waste too much time online. It took me 18 minutes to put it together — how long did it take you?
